The documentation of program participants and staff will be carried out through collection of quantitative data on recruitment, selection, and participation.

The examination of program practices will largely be carried out through a case study approach, based on observations at the center, interviews with the participants, examination of documents and records, and consideration of survey data.

The examination of student learning experiences will use an embedded case study approach, with a number of individual case study students embedded within the larger overall case study of the program.  More detailed observation and interviews of these case study students, together with interviews of their family members and close observation of their work at the center, and further consideration of the survey data will allow a more fine-grained analysis of the experiences of individual students.

Finally, an experimental or quasi-experimental approach will be used to examine program impacts on student behavior and achievement.
If there are sufficient numbers of applicants to the center's programs, students will be admitted to these programs through random assignment, and then the dependent variables mentioned above will be compared for students admitted to comparable students who applied but were not admitted, thus representing an experimental approach.  If there is insufficient number of applicants for such random assignment, a quasi-experiment will be set up, by comparing those students admitted to a cohort of students who did not apply to the center but otherwise appear to be as similar as possible in background.
